Last weekend, Cathy Chavez-Miller and I with two CSUMB students, were scanning photographs from Wellington Lee’s Chinatown collection for the future Salinas Chinatown Museum. We were visited by a Monterey County Weekly reporter and a photographer who were doing a story on our new grants. Wellington and Cathy took them on a tour of Chinatown, and afterward they interviewed us in the Confucius Temple on Tom O. Wong St. You can read the article HERE.
The photograph scanning is actually a fun process, involving lots of storytelling on both sides of the scanner. So, just a reminder: we are still looking for photographs of Salinas’ historic Chinatown, especially from the early through mid-20th century. Please contact me if you would like to share your photographs.
