SALINAS, CA – On Saturday, March 9, 2013, The National Steinbeck Center, The Chinese Association of Salinas, The Filipino Community of Salinas Valley, and The Salinas Valley JACL cordially invite you to attend an exciting event to raise funds for the National Steinbeck Pacific Gardens, at 6:00 PM at the National Steinbeck Center located at One Main Street, Salinas, CA.
The plans for the Pacific Gardens include a reflecting pool with perimeter canopies that frame outdoor exhibit panels that chronicle the local stories of the Chinese, Filipino, and Japanese communities of the Salinas Valley. Interactive audio pods will present the oral histories of the various residents who shaped the community.
Inspired by the landscape architecture of the Asian members of the Salinas Community, the future Pacific Gardens graciously extends the lobby to a formal and contemplative space.
The evening will be colorful with Asian foods, refreshments, and delightful entertainment. Performances in the evening’s program will include:
6:00 PM Monterey Bay Lion Dance Group
6:45 PM Shinsho-Mugen Daiko – Taiko drumming
7:15 PM Chinese Musicians
7:30 PM The Filipino-American Community Club of Monterey Peninsula, Marina
Tickets are $75.00 per person. For tickets and general information, contact the National Steinbeck Center at (831) 775-4721. All proceeds from this event will benefit the National Steinbeck Pacific Gardens Project.
